Venue Review: The National Piping Centre, Glasgow

The National Piping Centre

The Jiggers love playing at The National Piping Centre!

Location

The National Piping Centre is in Glasgow city centre, set in a historic church building built in 1872.

Quirky Features

The building is “an Italianate church with a Tuscan tower and has a mix of Greek elements with a simple pigmented façade”. If you studied architecture at the nearby Glasgow School of Art, you’ll probably know what that means. For the rest of us, we’ll have to settle for “pretty”.  It’s also the home of Scottish Piping.

What makes it a good venue?

Invariably good food – they do that really well in our experience – and a nice modernly refurbished decor, with helpful staff.

Our Impressions

There’s a decent-sized dance-floor for ceilidh dancing and we can set up on the stage behind the curtain without distracting guests who may still be finishing their meal out front. Acoustically, the venue is especially pleasing, and both the band and the DJ sounds really great in that room.
