Venue Review: The Caves, Edinburgh

The Caves

The Caves in Edinburgh is a great venue for a ceilidh!

Location

The Caves is just off the Royal Mile and Grassmarket in Edinburgh city centre. The venue makes up the substructure of the 18th Century South Bridge.

Quirky Features

In a city of unique venues, The Caves holds its own – every room has a story to tell and a special place in Scottish history, from vaults that served as the stables to the French Cavalry who were bodyguards to the Royal Family, to remains of the houses that pre-date the Bridge itself – with the original terracotta floor tiles still intact.

What makes it a good venue?

This is a very atmospheric venue. The stone walls just look amazing. They have candlelit alcoves too which have a really nice ambience.

Our impressions

The Caves is* great for special celebrations of all kinds and makes for a very memorable event for both large and small gatherings.

If you have hosted or attended an event at The Caves, please do leave a comment and share your experience.

*Should that be “The Caves ARE great?” answers on a postcard 😉
