Venue Review: Houstoun House, Livingston

Macdonald Houstoun House

We come to a favourite venue of the Jiggers – Macdonald Houstoun House!

Location

It is in quite a nice secluded spot near Livingston just west of Edinburgh, and has acres of woodland around it.

Quirky Features

Houstoun House’s historical claim-to-fame is that they were visited by Mary Queen of Scots, so it’s a fairly historic building!

It’s a kind of 16th century tower house and also has a unique feature bedroom in the tower.

What makes it a good venue?

Pleasant gardens outside and a cosy living fire in the snug. This makes it a good venue in all weathers. The dancefloor is a good size and is ideal for ceilidh dancing with the tables never set too far apart.

Our Impressions

The food is always good and the buffet is always served punctually which helps the evening run smoothly. The Jiggers love playing at  Houstoun House!
